Illuminating the Way to Safety Photoluminescent Glow-in-the-Dark Wayfinding Systems and Safety Products

Bob Katz – Executive Vice President/co-owner of SUMA Industries, New York

January 25, 2012 12:00PM

Happy New Year!  We are pleased to kick off 2012 with a presentation that will be of interest to all. Fail-safe, non-electric photoluminescent evacuation wayfinding products, which radiate a bright luminous glow in darkness during a building evacuation, have emerged as a preferred alternative to conventional egress guidance technology.  Today’s vaulting and legitimate concern with terrorism and building security motivated the International Code Council (ICC) to mandate installation of photoluminescent safety signs and pathway marking systems in the emergency stairways of high-occupancy buildings.  The new ICC photoluminescent system requirements are included in the recently adopted 2009 IBC/IFC codes.  SUMA Industries is a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark safety signs and egress marking systems.

Bob spearheaded the development of this technology at SUMA Industries shortly after the 9/11 WorldTradeCenter tragedy.  SUMA has developed systems for numerous large clients including the UN World Headquarters Complex, the US Army, Marriott Hotels, NASA, 3M Corp., MorganStanley Smith Barney and Mount SinaiMedicalCenter.  Before founding SUMA Industries, Bob spent 25 years in advertising account management at major NY agencies directing marketing, creative, and production services for key clients including Pepsi, Proctor & Gamble, Hasbro Toys, Gillette and Pfizer.

*Please note that this will be a technology presentation - NOT a sales presentation
